Service
Fractional CTO & AI Officer.
An experienced AI deployment partner without adding a full-time executive role — Fractional CTO for the AI age. We monitor workflows, review exceptions, control tool sprawl, train the team, and keep improving the systems after launch.

Embedded leadership
Ongoing AI operations, not another deck.
What's included
An AI leader who stays.
After AI is deployed, the work keeps moving. Models change, exceptions appear, teams need training, and the next workflow becomes visible.
Standing strategy session
Recurring deep-dive on AI priorities, what's working, and what to tackle next.
On-call access
Slack or email access for quick questions, vendor evaluation, and decisions that can't wait.
Vendor & tool evaluation
We evaluate AI tools and vendors on your behalf so you don't get sold something that doesn't fit.
Outcome tracking
Measure whether deployed workflows are saving time, improving response, reducing risk, or exposing the next bottleneck.
Team enablement
Workshops and ad hoc coaching for your team as they adopt new AI tools.
Workflow improvement
Keep improving prompts, rules, automations, handoffs, integrations, and review steps as the business learns.
Exception review
Review failed, uncertain, escalated, or costly cases so the workflow gets safer and more useful over time.
Engagement levels
Pick your cadence. We'll scope the rest.
We don't publish fixed tiers because every business is different. After a strategy day we'll quote a flat monthly that matches what you actually need. To understand what a Fractional CTO & AI Officer actually does day-to-day, read What Is a Fractional AI Officer?.
Light-touch
Standing strategy time, on-call advisory, and a small block of build hours. For businesses where AI is a priority but not yet a department.
See if it fitsEmbedded
Higher-cadence access, full vendor coverage, and meaningful build hours each cycle. For businesses actively shipping AI work and wanting senior backup.
Most chosenOperator-mode
Weekly working sessions, priority access, and embedded build capacity across functions. For organizations building AI into multiple parts of the business.
Let's talkWaterloo Region
Fractional CTO for Kitchener-Waterloo.
Kitchener-Waterloo is Canada's most concentrated tech ecosystem outside Toronto. Startups, scale-ups, fintech firms, and advanced manufacturers across Waterloo Region need senior technical leadership without the $250K+ full-time CTO hire.
We serve KW companies as a Fractional CTO — evaluating AI tools and vendors, setting architecture direction, coaching engineering teams, and ensuring production AI systems actually work. Same embedded leadership model as our Fractional AI Officer engagement, framed in the language KW tech leadership already uses.
Whether you're a 15-person startup that needs AI strategy for your product, or a 50-person manufacturer evaluating automation, we provide hands-on technical leadership at a fraction of the cost of a full-time CTO.
45 min from KW
On-site Strategy Days in Waterloo Region. Ongoing engagements via Slack, Zoom, and site visits.
Built for KW tech
We ship production AI. Claude, GPT, Gemini — same tools your team uses, but with production patterns and 8 years of deployment experience.
Strategy Day: $1,000
One day on-site in KW. Leave with an AI roadmap, vendor audit, and build priorities — plus a flat monthly quote for ongoing Fractional CTO coverage.
Common questions.
How is pricing structured?
Engagements are scoped around the oversight, review cadence, and improvement work you actually need. We quote a flat monthly after the workflow and operating rhythm are understood.
What's the minimum commitment?
3 months. Most clients renew. The work compounds — by month four we know your stack, your team, your goals.
Is this you personally, Steffen, or a team?
You work directly with Steffen for strategy. Build work is fulfilled by our team, with Steffen overseeing quality.
Fractional CTO or Fractional AI Officer — what's the difference?
Same role, different framing. In tech-heavy markets like Kitchener-Waterloo, we use 'Fractional CTO' because that's the language engineering leadership already speaks. In other industries, 'Fractional AI Officer' resonates more. Both describe the same embedded leadership engagement — strategy, vendor evaluation, team enablement, and ongoing deployment support.
How is this different from hiring an AI consultant?
Project consultants parachute in and leave. A Fractional CTO stays close to the deployed workflows, reviews exceptions, measures results, and helps decide the next improvement.
Can we pause or cancel?
30-day notice to pause or cancel after the initial term. No lock-in beyond that.
Do unused build hours roll over?
Within the same quarter, yes. Beyond that, we'd rather rescope the engagement to match what you actually use.

30-minute strategy session
For real businesses with real problems.
Not for tire kickers. Not for tech tourists looking for a demo. For business owners who already know something in their operation is broken — and want to know if AI can fix it.
This isn't about replacing people. It's about killing the bad business processes your team hates as much as you do — the manual work, the missed calls, the after-hours admin.
Strategy sessions are free. Strategy Days are $1,000, capped at 4 people per session. Larger teams or multi-location workshops by special arrangement — ask when you book.
